Links with Rahi and Ki o Rahi

Hello Everyone

In P.E. we need to research the links of ki o rahi and rahi the mori figure. He had to answer 3 questions and what I answered

Explain the links between the legend of rahi and the game of ki o Rahi

The Legend of Rahi and Ki-O-Rahi both come from Māori culture. Rahi represents strength and unity in myth, while Ki-O-Rahi is a team game focused on strategy and teamwork. Both involve competition, resilience, and working together to achieve a goal.

What are the values are expressed in the game?

make only 4The game of Ki-O-Rahi expresses these key values:

  1. Teamwork – Working together to succeed.
  2. Respect – Showing respect for everyone involved.
  3. Courage – Facing challenges with bravery.
  4. Unity – Strength in collective effort.

Take one value from the game and explain how it is linked to the origin story.

In Ki o Rahi, teamwork is vital for success. Players must work together to win. In the Legend of Rahi, the sun, moon, and stars work together to keep balance, just like players in the game. Both show that cooperation leads to success.

What countries have the most earthquakes?

Hello Everyone

In this blog, we have to choose a topic for this task. We can determine earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis. For this task, I prefer earthquakes because I have some knowledge of them. Then we have to choose a task to show our learning. I choose to answer this question “What countries have the most earthquakes”. I decided to do some research and I found that Japan has the most earthquakes ever. The reason why Japan has the most earthquakes ever is that Japan is sitting at the 7 tectonic plates, but how do they start an earthquake? There are 4 types of plate boundaries.  Convergent Plate, Transform Plate, Divergent Plate and Hotspot Plate. Different Boundaries do different things, Divergent plates are when plates rip apart from each other and Convergent Plates are when 1 one plate crashes into another plate making 1 plate dive downwards. transform plates when two plates pass each and Hotspot plates when a plate rides over a rising hot mantle plume. There are 7 plates around the world the Pacific Plate, the North American Plate, the Eurasian Plate, the African Plate, the Antarctic Plate, the Indo-Australian Plate, and the South American Plate. Japan sits between the North American plates, the Pacific Plates, the Filpino plates, and the Eurasian plate.

Health Discovery

Hello Everyone

In Health we have to do a discovery task, we can choose a topic and learn about it on our own, there a serval topics to choose from and I picked “social media on the mind “. I chose this topic because nowadays days when see everyone is just looking down at their phones like robots and I always wonder how much time has been spent on social media. So what I did for my discovery project was an infographic of why we humans use social media, I  first started to fill out a planning sheet that my teacher assigned me, then I went to Canva to find a new article template and saw a perfect template to use. I did a lot of research to find out how social media started, the challenges we are facing with social media, what makes social media addicting and how social media affects you. I asked people questions to fill out a pie chart to see why people use social media, how much they spend on social media in a day and how to limit social media usage. It was challenging to ask people around but I’m also proud of it because this is boosting my confidence. Another challenging thing is that using Canva, I don’t really use Canva much and has been a struggle but since I got it done, work has been better. Here is some images that I use for planning and work.

Alfred Wegener

Hello Everyone

In this blog, we have to research about a man called Alfred Wegener. He was born in Berlin Germany in 1880 with both of his parents, he went to the University of Berlin and studied biographies like studying how the earth works inside of the earth’s crust and researching everything about the earth itself. He is known for creating the term continental drifts; continental drifts are when continents separate from each other because of entonic plates.

Medicine and Health Issues Assessment

Hello Everyone

In health, we had to do a health assessment about a health issue. For this topic, I have covered sickness nausea,  this sickness is where you have an edge to vomit by a few things like motion sickness, food poisoning, taking the pill on an empty stomach and many more symptoms to experience nausea. In this topic, I have done the legend assessment covering each treatment with the four well-beings covering physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being. I also covered the medicine types like WSM, CAM and TM. Here is a copy of my work!

WSM ( Western Scientific Medicine )
WSM also known as Western Scientific medicine is a medicine that is scientifically proven to treat an illness, disease or any health condition. Western Medicine is also evidence-based medicine to prove the medicine if it’s safe to take.

CAM ( Complementary and Alternative Medicine )
Complementary Alternative medicine is a medicine that is not stand-by medical care. Some medicines in this category are not scientifically proven, this type of category is mostly like practices and episodes to take more often like messages and yoga.

TM ( Traditional Māori Medicine )
Traditional Māori Medicine is a traditional medicine in New Zealand. Most medicines in this category are proven to work. Some medicines can heal headaches, colds, coughs, etc. These medicines can be plant-based or creams to heal you safely.

Chosen Health Issue – Nausea
What is Nausea?
Nausea is a type of sickness where you have an urge to vomit, Nausea and triggered by motion sickness, Taking Pills on an empty stomach, food poisoning, eating too little or too much or intake on alcohol.

3 Ways to Treat Nausea

Nassue Relief Medicines (WSM) (TM)
Physical: This treatment can heal you physically, which can help you digest medicine and make a few changes around your body.
Mental: This can affect you mentally since you have to remember what time or day to take the medication.
Spiritual: This will affect your spiritual well-being because you probably can’t take the medicine because of religion, family tradition or cultural rules
Social: Taking this medicine will reduce the nausea which you can go on the rest of your day and socialize with people over time.
Avoiding Strong Smells (WSM) (TM) (CAM)
Physical: This affects the physical well-being, Try not to smell any strong or intense smell, if so try to move to another location to rescue the cause of nausea.
Mental: This affects your mental since you need to be mindful of where you are like a place with a lot of smells you don’t like or smells that are strong.
Spiritual: This affects spirituality because some people need specific smells to heal them over time.
Social: This affects your social well-being since you can ask people, friends or family to help you to get rid of certain or strong smells, these people help you to heal over time.
Eat Light Foods (WSM)
Physically: This affects your physical well-being since the food you are eating might be not enough and your body can change due to lack of food and lack of energy
Mental: This affects mental well-being since you have to be mindful of what you are eating. Eating food that is too much or you think you can’t finish during a nausea period is quite bad and leads to more serious vomiting or dizziness.
Spiritual: This can affect your spiritual well-being since some people believe that eating food gives energy and heals you over time while others think that not eating at all is a good idea. This is just what you believe in.
Social: This affects your social well-being since you might need someone to give you light food over time, if needing social support, you can simply text, call or talk to someone you might know to help you to not think of your nausea period.

1 Positive & 3 negatives about Nausea

Positives: ( Nausea is the most negative thing to come across)
This might teach you what foods, smells or tastes might trigger your nausea and things to stay away.
Negative:
Having to vomit and/or the feeling of dizziness
Nauese prevents you from eating and drinking much over
Nausea can bring more sickness into your body
Nausea can be a symptom of some sickness or disease.
When having nausea, is either that you had food poisoning, overeating, or eating too much spicy foods or a starting of a sickness.

Asthma

Hello Everyone

In health, we had to research any disease, disorder or sickness that we wanted so for this topic I chose Asthma. A brief explanation of asthma is also known as a disease for affacts airways through your lungs, this affects how you breathe, how you consume oxygen, how can you hold your breath and affects your stamina. Asthma can affect you physically because it can affect your body in different ways and your everyday doings. How do you know you have asthma? Some side effects are knowing if you have asthma like shortness of breath, Wheezing when exhaling, chest pain/tightness or hard for falling asleep because of chest pain/tightness, shortness of breathing or wheezing when exhaling. What to do when having asthma? First talk with a doctor to find out about this issue, if having asthma, the doctors will give you pre-prescription medicine to take. What is the medicine for asthma? There are 2 types of medicines for asthma, the first medicine is called a “Turbuhaler”, this type of inhaler is mostly used for the ages 12+ and is the most affected inhaler. The other type of medicine is just called the “inhaler” which is mostly used for people who have asthma and/or need more oxygen through their lungs. The interesting about asthma is asthma is worse in winter, the reason for this is that winter has low humidity, and cold and dry air can disrupt and also irritate your airways through your lungs. it is better to stay inside through clean air and about room temperature.

Safety and Medicine

Hello Everyone

In Health, we had to research being safe with medicine and ways to treat it. We also had to watch a video explaining all the main points of medicine. The main points are mistakes when taking medicine, how to store medicine, how to deal with expired medicine, and how to take and deal with medicine for children. When taking medicine while being a teenager, you must be safe with it and if not sure, ask a trusted adult to ensure the best guidance so here are a few ways to be safe with medicine.

  • Read the label of the medicine for instructions, ingredients, expiry date, age requirements and what the medicine is for.
  • When taking capsule medicine, have water next to you, when digesting drink the water to push the capsule into your tummy to your bloodstream liquid medicines it is the same instructions provided with capsules but measure the amount you need for the liquid medicine and make sure to not use a tablespoon.
  • Make sure you take the medicine on time if needed Also, also do not overdose medicine and keep it in the right amount labelled in the instructions.
  • If expire medicine, try to throw it away.
  • Before taking a medicine ask a parent or a guardian to ensure guidance and safety.

Challenges and Responses Aotearoa

Hello Everyone

In social study, we had to research what New Zealand is facing and the issues they are facing. The first issue is high inflation, inflation is when prices increase over time, this is because when people have a lot of money they mostly often buy it easily which makes it harder for people who sell services, products etc. The second thing that New Zealanders are facing is buying property and houses. This makes it harder for people to buy property and this topic relates to high inflation. The third thing that people are facing in New Zealand are rising unemployment, people normlly failed NCEA and this makes the issue.

Periodic Table

Hello Everyone

In science, we are currently learning chemistry, while in chemistry our topic is the periodic table. Then we had an activity to draw the first 20 periodic table elements, the 20 periodic tables we had to name hydrogen, helium, lithium, beryllium, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, neon, sodium, magnesium, aluminium, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, argon, potassium and calcium. In a shell also known as the ring of the atom, there are only 2 electrons for the first ring of the atom, the next row of the ring will be 8 electrons in the ring and having another ring is another 8 electrons and so on. The number of electrons in the outer shell of all the elements in a group is the same as the group number. The patterns I see in the periodic table in the periods/rows and the grouping, it represent the eltrons in each group.
